Podcast Gumbo Has Moved!
Yes, it’s all grown up and has its own domain.
For most of my life, I never got into video games. In college, I had a bunch of friends that came from the Jersey shore (yes, that place) and video games were a huge part of their childhood. It was at that point that I ended up playing games like Robotron and Crystal Castles.
I would say I had a shortish addiction to both. In fact, we played Robotron so much that some of us would suffer in pain which we appropriately named, ‘Robotron elbow.’
Many years later, along with the masses, I got addicted to Words With Friends. I couldn’t get enough of it. And then I had to stop cold turkey. I spent way too much time on it. I’ve fallen off the wagon a couple of times but nothing that’s going to make me put on a hairshirt.
While two of those things usually aren’t a danger to an Apple computer, malware is an issue.
I’ve had malware on this computer. I have no idea how I got it and I honestly don’t remember which variant it was. I don’t think it was all that bad but I’m not sure as it was a few years ago. All I know is that it was cleaned.
That’s not meant to be alarmist. I would much rather be on an Apple computer than a Windows-based machine. But you would be silly to continue to be a denier that Apple computers are immune to the bad stuff. Just because it appears to happen less frequently doesn’t mean you shouldn’t protect yourself especially if it’s easy.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could write your email address on your phone with just two characters?
I mean, how many times do you have to type out your full email address? Typically, you’re filling out a form, which also includes things like your address which can also be lengthy. These things also need to be correct 100% of the time.
I should do a poll but I’m guessing that less than 50% of the people I know have no idea this is a standard feature on Apple’s operating systems. Or, they do but have never thought of ways they could use it to make their lives a lot simpler.
After reading my first draft of this post, I decided to scrap it entirely. This needs to be short, so here it goes.
If you are nodding your head yes to those three questions, then do this one simple trick.
I do a lot of walking. At least I try to. As my mind wanders, inevitably I have some thoughts I want to write down. Save the world type thoughts. Ok, not really. Just stuff I needed for myself.
I had heard some good things about an app called Just Press Record. The app made it simple to record a memo and then transcribe it. Not only that, the recordings could be found on your Mac as an audio file (but not the transcribed text).
After purchasing the app, I installed it on my Apple Watch Series 0 (AW0). I used it a few times and although I liked it, I didn’t love it. Then came my AW3.
